Opinion poll: Is it important for you to know how customers found your website?

One of the most important parts of digital marketing is understanding how your customers discovered your business online. This valuable information helps you prioritise your digital marketing efforts, track what’s working, and identify where there’s room for improvement.

In a recent Yellow Pages newsletter poll, we asked you about the importance of SEO for your business. The results revealed that 71% of you say SEO is important for your website. However, almost a third (29%) of you say you don’t view SEO as being important.

As more customers browse and buy products online as a result of COVID-19, it’s more critical than ever to understand how people are finding your business on the world wide web. So how can you understand where your traffic is coming from?

Breaking down the different traffic sources to your website.

There are a number of ways to find out how people are finding your website online.

1. Google Analytics. This extremely powerful platform provides you with the insights you need to understand how people discovered your website, and how they’re using it. Within Google Analytics, you can see which traffic source is driving the most visitors to your website — be it social media, search engine marketing (SEM), organic search (SEO), direct, referrals from other websites, email marketing, and more.

2. Ask them! Ask, and you shall receive. If you’d like to learn more about how people discovered your website online, a quick survey will do the trick. Create a form for free using a tool like SurveyMonkey or Google Forms, then send this to customers after they have made a purchase.

3. Talk to Yellow Pages. If you want to get discovered by more customers online, leave the heavy lifting to the experts. We’ll help you understand exactly where your visitors are coming from, and use this information to help you grow your business online. Learn more about our digital marketing services here.
