Opinion poll: Do you think a website contributes to your bottom line?

As a greater number of people stay at home in light of the pandemic, more Aussies are researching and buying online than ever before. An Australia Post survey found that over 5.2 million households shopped online in April 2020 — and by the end of the year, online spending is tipped to account for over 15% of the total market.

Despite this, the findings from a recent Yellow Pages newsletter poll revealed that the jury’s still out for many SMBs when it comes to website ROI. According to the results, 59% of respondents said their website contributes to their bottom line, while 41% believe it doesn’t deliver tangible ROI for the business.

Even if you don’t physically sell products online, your website has more of an impact on your revenue than you may think. We take a look at the business benefits of having a website below.

Beyond ROI: the benefits of having a website.

Regardless of whether you’re selling products or promoting your services, your website plays a big role in helping you get found. Here are just some of the reasons why a website is incredibly beneficial for your business:

  • Improves your visibility and website SEO. Australians Google everything these days, from cafes and eateries to service providers. If your business doesn’t appear in these search results, you risk losing opportunities to get discovered online. Optimising your website with SEO services is incredibly important if you want to be found by relevant customers on Google.
  • Showcase your products or services. Customers don’t just window shop at physical stores — they browse and research online as well. Your website is a valuable tool for potential customers to “try before they buy” at any time, from the comfort of their own home or on their phone.
  • It works 24/7 for your business. Even when your physical doors are closed, your website is still there, ready and waiting to showcase your products or services to the world. Your customers might hop on your website to learn more about your business or book an appointment when they get home from work.
